Declaration on the Right of the Child to Immunization Adopted by BiH Federation Parliament

The Declaration on the Right of the Child to Immunization was presented by Federal Minister of Health and adopted by all Parliamentarian members of Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 6, 2008. This event was organized within the programme of the European Immunization Week (EIW) and children from a kindergarten of Sarajevo were there, participating in the session by singing the song and making the Parliamentarian building child-friendly.
In addition, in front of all MPs the Federal Minister of Health thanked UNICEF for providing a great long-term support to the federal government in building the immunization programme in BiH.

This is the first time in history that children were invited to the Parliament building, sitting together with government politicians and participating in the parliamentarian session. UNICEF's leaflets and poster - developed within EIW - were posted on the speaker place conveying the message on the right of child to immunization and reminding adults/politicians on their responsibilities.
The whole immunization event with children attracted a lot of attention of journalists and media representatives who were there following and reporting on this unusual event in various papers and TVs.
The Child friendly Parliament initiative will probably continue in BiH. It may be used as a tool for raising awareness and responsibilities of policy makers towards children rights in other countries as well.
