Birthday party speech was presented by Deborah McWhinney, OIC, with a little help of our friends

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for joining us today to mark UNICEF’s  60th Anniversary. If you do not remember, your parents will: former Yugoslavia was one of the first countries to receive UNICEF’s assistance ever, rights after the WWII. As you can see, we are still with you, working to secure better future for every child.

In the six decades since it was formed, UNICEF has evolved from an emergency fund to a development agency committed to protecting the rights and needs of children, wherever they may be, no matter what the conditions of their lives. The story of UNICEF is a story of childhoods lost and reclaimed, childhoods nurtured and protected; it is the story of how much good the human family can do when it unites to protect the rights of its youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

For the past 60 years, UNICEF has represented the needs and rights of children everywhere. It has worked across political, national and social divides to provide integrated services for children and their families. In the new millennium – and in the context of a revitalized and reformed UN – UNICEF pledges to strengthen all its partnerships to accelerate achievements for the world’s youngest citizens.

On behalf of children of BIH, thanks for working with us, and for supporting our pronouncement: UNITE FOR CHILDREN.
