"Our right is to be protected from violence" - children are giving their letter to the Prime-minister

Council for children, Ministry for human rights and refugees and UNICEF, on the occasion of Universal Children's Day and UNICEF's 60th anniversary, are organizing a two-days conference on social protection for children. The participants were UNICEF's partners and friends, involved in UNICEF's activities in 2006. The conference was described by participants as a real child-friendly event: children were given seats in the first row, together with an opportunity to give their letter to the Prime-minister, with children's recommendation on how to fight violence against children and how to improve politics to be more responsive to children. All participants had to formulate their sentences in a child-friendly language. "I firmly believe that all of us present here, in some way can do something to secure better future for every child" - said H.E. Adnan Terzic, Chair of the Council of Ministers in his opening speech.

"We have chosen to hold our Annual Review conference starting today as it is an appropriate time to reflect on the past year, together with our partners, in order to define our priorities for 2007. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners for their devotion and a hard work in 2006 for the benefit of children in this country. Our wish is to both continue and to improve this work in order to deliver visible and measurable results for all children in Bosnia and Herzegovina." -said Deborah Mc Whinney, UNICEF Representative a.i. opening the Conference.
