Early Childhood Development Center in Sarajevo celebrates its first birthday

Birthday cake - to mark the first year of dedicated work

Sarajevo, 24.  November - Celebrating a year of hard work, children, parents and staff of the Early Childhood Development Center in the municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo today marked the first birthday with a symbolic socialization. Center was established in the framework of the initiative "Best start for every child" and is a great example, because after the initial donor support Municipality completely took over the funding of the Centre.

"In the past year, the Center has offered about 700 its services to 171 users on a monthly basis. Special attention is given to vulnerable families and children through home visits,  pointed out Rada Lukic,  Deputy Mayor and Center’s coordinator.

Special guests at today’s ceremony were Damir Hadzic, Mayor,  Enis Bešlagić, actor, Florence Bauer, UNICEF Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Natalia Dianovska, Head of social development, civil society and the State Statistical Bureau at the Delegation of the European Union BiH.

"We are pleased to see concrete examples of how strategic actions, policies and strategies supported by the European Union affect the most vulnerable groups of children. Municipality of Novi Grad is a positive example of a community, which took over funding of the Centre and we hope that other municipalities will follow this example” said Natalia Dianovska this occasion, the head of department for social development of civil society and the state border cooperation.

Early childhood development centers promote a supportive and responsible parenthood;
assist in establishing links between the health, education and social welfare sectors,
educating parents, work with children at risk, help the early detection and provide early intervention services, preschool education and family support.

"Municipality Novi Grad Sarajevo has recognized the value and need for such services and proving it with taking the full responsibility for financing the Center for early childhood development, seeking to ensure the best start for every child in our municipality," said Damir Hadzic, Mayor of Novi Grad Sarajevo municipality.

Centre for early childhood development in the municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo was opened under the project "Strengthening the social protection and inclusion for children in Bosnia and Herzegovin,  supported by the European Union, the Government of the Kingdom of Norway and the UK Department for International Development (UKAID) . The "best start for every child is supported by commercial partners - m:tel and  the American Chamber of Commerce in BiH. After the Centre in Novi Grad Sarajevo, similar centers were formed in Bileca, Kotor Varos, Laktasi, and Foca.
