Child-centred training

More than ten thousand children age from six to ten, in 120 primary schools throughout BIH benefit from the Child-centred training provided to their teachers. Within this activity, teachers learn how to organize classrooms putting the child in the centre of teaching and learning process , creating a positive learning environment for each individual. Teachers are also trained to add active learning elements into the curricula, about managing classrooms, and how to document and assess the results. Building partnerships with parents and the community is also a part of this training for teachers. So far, 50 teachers have been trained to provide future trainings for their colleagues in 12 local training centres from 120 primary schools. The training programme is accompanied by two handbooks containing information on how to create a child-centred classroom environment.
UNICEF promotes a child-friendly inclusive learning environment. It is described as a child centered classroom, which respects the rights of every child. A child-friendly school provides an education based on the reality of children’s lives; it respects equality, promotes mental and physical health, and works with parents and communities.
In order to assist the schools in BIH in creating positive learning environment, UNICEF has procured tables, shelves and boards for 90 primary school classrooms.
