The Reality of Life Today for the Children of Bosnia and Herzegovina

 

Adolescence

  • In BiH 10 % of women are married by the time they reach 18.
  • The registered juvenile crime rate among children aged 14 - 17 is on the increase with current estimates at 255 per 100,000
  •  There is an increase in the use of narcotics and the youth suicides.
  • The general unemployment rate was 31 % but reaches 62% among young people.
  • With only 79% secondary school enrolment it can be assumed that many children and youths work in the grey economy.
