So far 19 hospitals in BH, out of 35 existing, have been certified baby-friendly hospitals.

A task force to create National Policies on Young Child Development has been established, bringing together professionals from health, education and social welfare sectors.  Once developed, these policies should enable BIH to address the needs of children from birth to age six using a holistic approach.

The International Breastfeeding Code has been adopted in the Republika Srpska. Breastfeeding continues to be promoted through the training of 540 health workers in health centers and maternity hospitals per year.

The National Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) Committee has been established to take the responsibility for developing the National Plan of Action for sustainable elimination of IDD.

The Standards and Protocol for treatment and diagnosis of acute respiratory infections, diarrhea diseases and nutritive anemia, based on WHO (World Health Organization) recommendations have been developed by pediatric associations and adopted by Ministries of Health on the state level. Approximately 1,500 health professionals in 250 health centers have increased their knowledge on prevention of nutritive anemia, acute respiratory infections, diarrhea and asthma among children from birth to age six, also having improved their skills through training and sharing good practices of adequate treatment.
The Financial Sustainability Plan for Immunization until 2010 has been developed by the BIH authorities, with support of UNICEF, WHO, and the World Bank. As a result, last year the Government of Republika Srpska begun the procurement of some basic vaccines using UNICEF Procurement services. 
The government of BIH has applied for support from GAVI for injection safety, which includes auto-destructive syringes and safety boxes.
Parent support groups have been created in 11 health centers in BIH and provided free better parenting classes for couples; 35 trained health professionals piloted the parenting education material.
Approximately 500 Roma families with young children have been supported through groups for better parenting in four Roma communities throughout BIH.
