Welcome to the UNICEF Burkina Faso website!

Browse as you wish, and as the Webpages drift back learn about the programmes we support in Burkina Faso to foster child survival and development, children and women’s protection and participation. Find out how you can help to make this happen. .

UNICEF Burkina Faso supports government and civil society to ensure the application of the rights of children and women. This applies to health and nutrition; HIV/AIDS; education; water, sanitation and hygiene; protection; communication; and monitoring and evaluation.

UNICEF works in close collaboration with other partners, both bilateral and multilateral, and with other UN agencies, to achieve the Millennium Development Goals under the Strategic Framework for the Fight against Poverty. Our programmes contribute to the efforts of the country to achieve the goals of reducing infant and child mortality; prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV/AIDS transmission; caring for children infected or affected by AIDS.

We undertake educational activities, ranging from the Integrated Early Childhood Development, Girls’ education to Basic formal and non formal education to post primary education. This is meant to ensure access to quality education for all children.

UNICEF is also backing up the fight for the protection of children and the most vulnerable groups against abuse and discrimination through prevention interventions and fight against all forms of violence. In connection with this, UNICEF strives to combat the Female Genital Mutilation and its harmful consequences on girls and women.

We also combat the worst forms of child labor, in particular those that are likely to be hazardous or to interfere with the child's education, or to be harmful to the child’s health or physical, spiritual/social development.

We seek to collect, analyze, and share the maximum information on the development of children and women’s condition and livelihood in Burkina Faso. It is carried out through our interventions and in collaboration with many programme partners.

Our interventions in communication are designed to promote the behavioural change in favour of children and women’s welfare in Burkina Faso. They also value interventions that are carried out on the ground and support resources mobilization in favour of the children and women of Burkina Faso.

UNICEF Burkina Faso’s current programme stretches out from 2006 to 2010. Our goal is to raise US $ 74, 000,000 – and even more – to sustain our programme in Burkina Faso. This is possible thanks to our financial partners and National Committees that support the programme. The needs are still enormous. Help us to help the children of Burkina Faso live in a world fit for children! Together we can move mountains and make it happen.

Finally, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to my predecessor, Mrs Joan FRENCH. She was at the origin of this Website.
