Montserratian pre-school teachers learn early stimulation techniques

In an effort to improve the quality and care at the early childhood level in Montserrat, four early childhood practitioners from that country were recently exposed to best practices in early childhood care in St. Kitts and Nevis.

This was as a result of  a UNICEF –supported attachment to various pre-schools in St. Kitts where they witnessed early stimulation activities among young children

As a result of their visit, these Montserratian caregivers, along with the Early Childhood Development Officer, have returned to their country and have begun implementing what they have learnt. Children are now exposed to learning and stimulation materials made from local materials; they are also being engaged in more play outdoors and space is being created to allow this to happen. Further the 0-2 year old are being engaged in more stimulating activities.

In addition, plans are also on the way to implement child month from next year and UNICEF’s assistance will be requested in helping to improved standards in the Early Childhood sector.
