Working for children

UNICEF supports victims of disasters, after cyclone Sidr in Barisal division.

For thirty years, UNICEF has worked closely with the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the realization of women’s and children’s rights.

Under the Country Programme 2006-2010 and within the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), UNICEF and the Government of Bangladesh aim to improve the survival, development, protection and participation of women and children in accordance with:

• the Convention on the Rights of the Child
• the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women
• the Millennium Development Goals
• other international conventions and agreements related to children

UNICEF programmes are aligned with the Government of Bangladesh’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs).  The 2009-2011 PRSP contains a separate chapter on children and integrates children’s issues at all levels.
