Kishori Abhijan/Empowerment of Adolescents Project: Report on Baseline Findings
This report presents the findings of the baseline survey for the UNICEF-supported Adolescent Empowerment (Kishori Abhijan) project funded by the European Commission. The survey was produced with technical assistance from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and conducted by an independent agency, SURCH Bangladesh. More than 10,000 people were interviewed for this baseline study, which assessed the existing knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in target and control communities for the project. Discussion topics included child marriage, dowry, birth and marriage registration, child rights and HIV/ AIDS. The research found considerable awareness of early marriage and dowry, but reproductive health knowledge was lacking. Many respondents believed domestic violence was acceptable.
