SHEWA-B Health Impact Study Baseline Survey Results: Final Report
The Health Impact Study Baseline Survey is a household survey of behaviours relating to water, sanitation and hygiene. The survey covered target and control groups for UNICEF's DFID-funded Sanitation and Hygiene Education and Water Supply in Bangladesh (SHEWA-B) programme, including hard-core poor, those from the poorest families.
Key findings included large disparities between reported and observed behaviours, particularly regarding hand washing. Other issues monitored in the survey include open defecation, use and knowledge of safe water, menstrual hygiene, disease burden and expenditure.
