Women Friendly Hospital Initiative
UNICEF’s Women-Friendly Hospital Initiative (WFHI) has developed an environment which enables women to receive treatment in privacy and with dignity and respect. Violence against women has been recognized, diagnosed and treated through WFHI. This is also a starting point for addressing the causes and challenging the structures in society that allow gender-based violence to occur and continue. A strong emphasis on behavioural change and development is needed on issues such as breastfeeding, childcare practices, and the use of promotional, preventive and curative services within a context of the rights-based approach with a clear focus on reducing gender disparities.
