to UNICEF Azerbaijan Country Office

 POST TITLE:  Translator / interpreter / Editorial work (GS-6/Salary USD1, 700)
Duty Station:  UNICEF, Baku
Duration:  3 months under Special Service Agreement (renewable).

Background: 
The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is looking for a highly experienced and qualified translator/interpreter, and editorial specialist
Responsibilities/ Nature of the Assignment
Under the supervision of the Communication Officer, the incumbent of the post will translate a variety of texts, from Azerbaijani into English and from English into Azerbaijani, using appropriate terminology taking into account the style and nuances of the original text. When required, the translator will be asked to review the translation made by other persons for UNICEF work and will track agencies news websites and national newspapers to identify all information relevant to UNICEF work   It is also imperative that the translator be capable of working under pressure and meet deadlines.
Translator is required to translate a variety of materials related to public information materials, reports, brochures, press release and UNICEF Azerbaijan newsletter    frequently covering Child Protection, Health, Education, Youth Participation areas. The translator/interpreter/editor is expected to provide spontaneous verbal translation during official meetings of the UNICEF Representative with partners. 
Tasks/Work assignment

• 40%- Translation  into Azerbaijani or English the drafted correspondence, materials, other documents;
• 20%-  Verbal interpretation during  official meetings
• 20%-  Proofreading/editing materials translated into Azerbaijani or English by  contracted translators
• 20%- Tracking information issued by information agencies and national newspapers relevant to UNICEF work.
Competencies: 
Professionalism: Good Azerbaijani and English writing skills; good translation skills with capacity to detect and understand nuances in the original text; good grasp of the subject matter; ability to use all sources of reference; and ability to maintain an adequate speed and volume of output. 
Planning and Organizing: Ability to establish work priorities, plan, coordinate and monitor own work. 
Teamwork: Efficient coordination with others to ensure consistency of terminology and style; demonstrated ability to gain the support and cooperation of others in a team work environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity. 
Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
Technological Awareness: Experience in using word processing and other computer applications.
 
 Required Qualifications
Education: Relevant degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status.
Work Experience: At least five years experience in translation, preferably in the context of the United Nations or other international organizations.
 Languages: Good command of English and Azerbaijan languages; knowledge of Russian an asset.
