Azerbaijan NGO Alliance for Children's Rights held round-table on the theme "Social bid and models of community based social services and development perspectives for children in social dangerous state

Every year 40-60 children in various ages commit suicide.

UNICEF Chief of Child Protection Program Ramiz Behbudov said that special attention is given to the protection of children's rights in Azerbaijan. He told that there should be specific aims for achieving success in this field and they should be carried out according to the measures taken.

Family model of Azerbaijan is considered unique family model not even in West, but also in East. Just this includes traditions like family relations, respect to parents, parent-child relations, etc. UNICEF reports that number of early marriages increased in Azerbaijan. UNICEF Azerbaijani representation makes efforts to inform society on the negative consequences of early marriages. 


Solution of the problem through survey. Results of the investigation within Demographic and Health Survey (DSS-2011) presented in Azerbaijan

 Social investigations establish a goal on collecting information in this direction and often social surveys define real scope. The representatives of Health Ministry, Public Health and Reforms Center, parliamentarians, international organizations' representatives attended the event. UNICEF provided technical support for the event.

Today in Azerbaijan there are 500,000 people with disabilities, approximately 60 000 of them are children. The main problem of the disabled people in Azerbaijan is to receive education and employment. The project "Roadmap" aims at to reveal new opportunities in the employment of people with disabilities and work out activity strategy. The project will be implemented in the 4 regions.

AFFA in cooperation with UNICEF Azerbaijan launched a new project to develop women's football in the country as well as promote and enhance the popularity of the sport among girls. "3x3 Girls Tournament" in three age groups started at Bayil Stadium. According to the rules of the tournament in the application of each team must be 5 members. 3 players are fielded during the game.

The State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs jointly with UNICEF held event on early marriages. These events were held according to the Action Plan (2011-2015) on implementation of the “State Program on poverty reduction and sustainable development in 2008-2015” in 9 regions of Azerbaijan.

UN Human Rights Council adopts

Global child deaths reduce

 In 2012, approximately 6.6 million children worldwide – 18,000 children per day – died before reaching their fifth birthday. This is roughly half the number of under-fives who died in 1990, when more than 12 million children died.“This trend is a positive one. Millions of lives have been saved," said Anthony Lake, UNICEF Executive Director.

Japanese Government to improve school hygiene in Azerbaijani city of Agdash

This is the joint project with the Japanese Embassy and UNICEF and municipalities in Azerbaijan. UNICEf Azerbaijan will be supporting this project through the provision of hygiene education manuals and training skills. The Save the Children report echoes similar findings made public by the UN children's agency Unicef on Tuesday.
