My First Victory - UNICEF and Clear Water mark June 1

Dear children, mothers and fathers, grandparents, colleagues, representatives of Clear Water company and media,

First of all, I would like to congratulate us all on the occasion of the International Child Protection Day. I am really excited and happy to see especially our younger children who may be for the first time in their life will celebrate June 1st and will participate in their first ever sport contest. You all came here to witness the first victory of your beloved children, to see  how they have grown over the months and years.

But it is not just a sport event. As you may know we have partnered with Clear Water company to improve newborn health in Armenia. UNICEF and Clear Water company have joined efforts to help maternities in Armenia ensure that newborn children are provided proper care and are released from maternities safe and healthy.

However, I especially would like to stress here the responsibility of parents and grandparents towards their newly born babies and younger children. Without proper care, nutrition and protection our younger children are not able to thrive and develop to their full potential.

Today’s event is just another opportunity and forum for all of us to pay more attention to children’s health, to remind every parent, present and future, of basic recipes following which parents can ensure that their children grow healthy and learn quickly. UNICEF and Clear Water want to remind you that regular visits to a skilled health worker before, during and after pregnancy, exclusive breastfeeding of newborns for up to six months, timely vaccination of newborns and children are crucial factors in ensuring the best start for your children.

Today during the sport contest you will be competing as a team, as a family. UNICEF believes that every child should have a family as the only place for a child to feel safe, cared for and protected.

I wish all our young sportsmen success today in the competition and great victories in their future life, and for the latter to become a reality we all must UNITE for Children!

Thank you.
