A youth forum in Vlora to develop inputs for the HIV/AIDS strategy

Despite the risk factors present in Albania – the societal upheaval of transition, an increase in risky sexual behaviours and drug use, internal and external migration, poverty, discrimination and patriarchal attitudes — the country presently has only 123 confirmed cases of HIV/AIDS.

Keeping the rate of infection low is the goal of our work in HIV/AIDS in collaboration with government and civil society and other UN agencies. Young people need accurate information and clear guidance on how to negotiate the increasingly complex risks they face. To prepare young people for these challenges, UNICEF works to raise awareness and ensure provision of services young people need but have difficulty accessing.

Some statistics may differ from UNICEF's official data due to differences such as definitions and sample size. Complete official UNICEF data can be found on the main UNICEF website at www.unicef.org
