Integrated management of childhood illness
This project aims at improving primary health care and treatment for young children by encouraging holistic care rather than simply treating isolated illnesses, and by reducing unnecessary use of medication and referral to specialists. We help health workers learn to be more supportive in their communication with parents and to improve how families care for children, which is crucial for child survival and development. This is achieved by training health professionals and developing health education and counseling techniques. Another focus is improving the structure of health services and introducing integrated management of childhood illnesses in the training curricula of the school of medicine.
