UNICEF provided the vaccines at this maternal and child health centre in Fier |
UNICEF provides support to the Albanian government to forecast, plan and procure vaccines for children ensuring timely budgeting and procurement of EPI vaccines for all children. The Albanian government with UNICEF support has established a sustainable vaccine financing system covering 100 % of EPI vaccines. GAVI (the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization) provides support for introduction of new vaccines ( Hib).
We support the Albanian government in planning immunization plus interventions for hard to reach population groups including roma, rural remote and suburban areas of big cities). Awareness raising activities have focused the last few per cent of the population that miss childhood immunization combining immunization with growth monitoring, nutrition counseling and health promotion. Door to door tracking of children not registered with health services, by the Institute of Public Health, helps in reaching more children with immunization plus services. Other areas of intervention include ensuring safe immunization practices and training of health personnel on immunization services and ensure good standards for keeping vaccines cold until used by providing standard cold chain equipment.
