1. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) is looking for a part-time or full-time intern for winter 2013-2014. The position is in the Performance Management (PM) Unit, Division of Human Resources, UNICEF New York Headquarters. The intern will learn how the Organization implements and improves its staff performance evaluation cycle and will participate in the development of performance management related training programmes. S/he will also have the opportunity, through working as a member of the PM team, to learn about various UNICEF initiatives and how the organization operates globally.

2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
• Prepare statistics reports on global completion rate of performance appraisal activities in each phase of the annual performance review cycle.
• Prepare reports on global performance trends as related to performance reviews.
• Update intranet learning materials related to performance management.
• Administrative duties such as preparation of training materials and venues.
• Contribute to Train-the-Trainer and Coaching approaches to develop internal capacity building on performance management soft skills.
• Update and improve the learning database of various programmes (Competency-based Interviewing, Managing Performance for Results, etc.).
• Ad Hoc projects and assignments.

3. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
The candidate should:
• Be enrolled in a graduate degree programme at an accredited institution, preferably in Human Resources Management, Education, Business Administration, Statistics, International Relations or related field.
• Fluency in English. Knowledge of one other UN working language an advantage (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).

Required competencies:
• Technical-Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize concepts and material into clear and concise thoughts.
• Technical-Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent statistics analysis and reporting; excellent understanding of and knowledge of software such as but not limited to Microsoft Office applications, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
• Managing resources-Organizes and manages information to achieve defined goals and optimum results.
• Communication-Effectively presents thoughts and ideas including complex technical concepts, in a clear, concise and readily understood manger, both verbally and in writing. Listens to and acknowledges others’ perspectives and views.
• Flexibility-Works effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapts to changing demands and circumstances.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

4.  DURATION AND HOURS
• Working hours: 9:00am-5:00pm (flexible based on agreement), Part-time: 2-3 days a week, Full-time: 5 days a week.
• Duration: Minimum 3 months (possible extension to a maximum of 6 months), to start either:
a) November 19th or b) January (date TBD).  (Candidate must be enrolled in a graduate degree program during the entire duration of the internship.)
