Your Profile

Q. How do I create or complete a profile?
To create a profile, you must first register with UNICEF Employment by clicking Register here on the logon screen. In order to register, you will need to enter your first and last name, a valid e-mail address, and create a user name and password.  After registration, you will be taken to your Candidate Profile, where you enter your personal data, education, work experience, competencies, preferences and other requested information.  All fields marked with an asterisk must be completed.

Please note that it is recommended that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer rather than different web browser (Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari - Mac computer) because you will not be able to get the optimized version of the e-Recruitment system. We also recommend that you disable the pop-up blockers from your internet browser to enable additional windows such as the application wizard to open.

Q. What if I forget my password?
Click on the “Password Forgotten” link on the logon screen and enter your e-mail address and user name where specified.  A temporary password will be e-mailed to you, which can be used to log in and establish a new password. If you’ve forgotten your user name, please send us an email to eRecruitment@unicef.org, specifying your first and last name.

Q. How do I edit my education or work experience in e-Recruitment?
To edit your information on educational qualifications or work experience, go to your e-Recruitment Overview, click on My Profile to view your information. To edit, simply click on the blue box to the left of the row. It will then be highlighted in orange and the Edit and Delete buttons will be enabled. Click on Edit to modify the information.

If you are completing or updating your profile or if you are attempting to submit an application, we recommend that you copy and paste information from your CV to your e-Recruitment profile using the keyboard short-cut combination of Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste. This will ensure that your access is not timed out due to inactivity.

Q. I’ve been locked out due to too many failed log-ins. What do I do?
You will need to reset your access using the password forgotten link on the main log in page. A new temporary password will be emailed to you. Your access will then be reset and you will be able to log in again. You should also close all of your internet browser windows prior to logging back in to clear your recent browse history.

If you’ve forgotten your user name, please email us at eRecruitment@unicef.org, specifying your first and last name. We will provide you with instructions on how to reset your access.

Q. How do I attach my CV against my profile?
Please note that as a candidate external to UNICEF you cannot attach document against your profile. It is therefore important that your profile is as complete as possible reflecting the full range of your qualifications and experiences to allow for a thorough review of your application.

You can copy and paste information from your CV to your e-Recruitment profile using the keyboard short-cut combination of Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste.

Q. I cannot log back in due to inactivity. What do I do?
If your access has been timed out and you are logged out due to inactivity, we recommend that you close all of your internet browser windows to clear your recent history and try to log in again.

Please note that we recommend that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer rather than different web browser (Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, etc) because you will not be able to get the optimized version of the e-Recruitment system. We also recommend that you disable the pop-up blockers from your internet browser to enable additional windows such as the application wizard to open. Disabling pop-up blockers is usually done in the Tools menu section.

If you are using a Mac computer and are unable to utilize Microsoft Internet Explorer, you should be able to access e-Recruitment using Safari. You will need to disable the pop-up blockers. You should also be aware that some of the drop down menu might also not display properly. If you access to e-Recruitment is still not working properly, please try to use a PC with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Q. Do I have to answer all the profile questions in one session?
No, you can save the information you entered and return at a later time to finish your profile.  Please note that if you do not complete your profile prior to submitting an application, your application will not be considered.

Q. Where can I complete the competency section of my profile?
Completing a profile is now simpler: The competency tab has been simplified to only include languages. If you had completed competencies and technical knowledge as part of your profile, please note that this will no longer be available.  Competencies and technical expertise will still be assessed during the review and interview process, but you will no longer need to self-rate them as part of your profile.

Q. What should I include in my education profile?
Your education profile should include all post-secondary education you have received from an accredited institution.  Accredited institutions are those that have been recognized or otherwise sanctioned by competent authorities in participating countries. A list can be found via the UNESCO Web site.

Q. Is my profile information kept confidential?
UNICEF values your privacy and is committed to maintaining the security and confidentiality of your data. Please refer to the UNICEF Employment Privacy Statement for more details.

Q. Can I update my profile?
Yes, you can update your profile as often as you want.  Note that changes made to your profile after you have submitted an application may not be take into consideration for that vacancy. 

Q.  I’m a UNICEF consultant; do I have a profile at UNICEF Employment?
Consultants are considered external candidates for recruiting purposes, so if you are interested in future opportunities with UNICEF, please register with UNICEF Employment and complete your profile as described above.

Q. I recently logged in to UNICEF Employment as an Internal Candidate, but my contract expired. What happened to my candidate profile after I separated?
The information in your profile stays the same after you separate from UNICEF. However, you are no longer able to access UNICEF Employment as an Internal Candidate. Instead, you may use the same user name and password to log in to the system as an External Candidate at www.unicef.org/employ.  As an External Candidate you will be able to maintain your Personal and Communication Data in UNICEF Employment, and we suggest that you update the e-mail address stored there to your personal e-mail address as soon as you are able.

Searching Vacancies

Q. Do I need to register or log in to view a vacancy?
No, you may search for vacancies without logging in by clicking the Job Search link at www.unicef.org/employ.  However, you will need to register and to create and complete a profile to apply.

Q. How will I find out about vacancies?
There are two ways to find out about current and projected staff vacancies. The first way is to search the system; jobs are grouped by functional area, level and country.
Second, you can make your profile available to recruiters, even if you are not applying for a specific job. They may then contact you regarding vacancies in which you may be interested. To do this, you must complete your employment and education history (among other areas) and hit the “Release Profile” button.  Given the volume of applications received, this is not a guarantee, however, that you will be contacted regarding all jobs for which you may be suitable.

Applying for Jobs

Q. How do I apply for a job?
To apply for a job, you must:
1. Register;
2. Complete your profile;
3. Go to the ‘Employment Opportunities’ tab and carry out a ‘Job Search’;
4. Select your vacancy of interest, and click ‘Apply’;
5. Submit your application for the vacancy selected, following system prompts.

. Do I need to apply for a particular vacancy?
Yes, you must submit an application for each vacancy.

However, you can make your profile generally available to recruiters even if you are not applying for a specific job.  They may then contact you regarding vacancies in which you may be interested.

To do so, you must complete your employment and education history (among other questions) and hit the “Release Profile” button. Given the large volume of applications, this is not a guarantee, however, that you will be contacted regarding all jobs for which you may be suitable.

Q. For how many vacancies can I apply?
You are not limited in the number of vacancies to which you can apply.  It is up to each candidate to review the responsibilities, competencies and qualifications required for a particular vacancy before making a decision to apply for an advertised position.

Q. Do I have to fill out another profile to apply for another vacancy?
You do not need to re-do your profile each time you apply for a job. You need only submit a cover letter and other information specific to each application, if any.

Q. Do I have to pay an application, processing, interviewing or training fee?
UNICEF does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview meeting, processing, training or any other fees), nor will we request information about your bank account during recruiting.

UNICEF is aware of various schemes, being circulated via e-mails, from Internet web sites, and via regular mail or fax, falsely stating that they are issued by or associated with UNICEF and/or the United Nations.

These schemes may seek to extract money and in some cases personal details from the recipients of such correspondence. Such schemes are fraudulent.

The schemes consist of letters, sent either via e-mail, fax, regular mail, or from web sites, which appear as various proposals from people purporting to be officials of UNICEF or other United Nations entities. The correspondence and other documents, e-mails addresses and web sites may be made to look like they originate with the United Nations. For example, they may contain official-looking United Nations stationery, including the United Nations emblem or name, or some variation thereof, and e-mail or web site addresses, including either or both of the words "United Nations" or some similar name, or the name of a real United Nations entity or fictitious one. As a cautionary measure, kindly disregard messages soliciting such information.

Q. When I try to send my application, it says the application close date has passed. What is the deadline for applying?
The deadline for applications is determined by New York time (-4:00 GMT during Daylight Savings; -5:00 GMT during Standard Time) and not by your local time zone.  If it has passed midnight in New York on the application close date, you will not be able to apply, regardless of the date and time in your current location.

Q. I am having trouble connecting to UNICEF Employment. What is the problem?
There could be a number of causes.

There may be a problem with your Internet connection.  Please check with your Internet Service Provider. 

UNICEF Employment may be experiencing high system traffic.  Please try again later.

You may be experiencing a problem with your browser.  UNICEF Employment currently supports Internet Explorer 6.0. 

Q. How will I know my job application has been received?
When you apply for a job, the system will alert you with an onscreen confirmation and via an e-mail that your application has been received.  If you do not receive an e-mail acknowledgement within 24 hours of submitting an application, your application may not have been received.  To check, please log-in to the system and click on “Overview” and then “My Applications” in the ‘Employment Opportunities’ section.  If the application does not appear in your “My Applications” list, it was not received and you should try again.

Q.  How can I check on the status of my application?
Only candidates who are seriously being considered for a post are contacted for an interview.  Interviewed candidates will normally be advised of the outcome once the selection process has concluded.  At all times, candidates may view the status of the vacancies they have applied for by clicking on “My Applications” in the ‘Employment Opportunities’ section.
