Education Specialist (Child Friendly Schools), L-4, Nairobi Regional Office, Kenya

If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks an Education Specialist (Child Friendly Schools) to be based in its Nairobi Regional office, Kenya.

Under the general supervision of the Regional Chief of Education, you will be expected to provide solid technical assistance, quality assurance and knowledge building/management services to ESAR (Eastern and Southern Africa) countries in the area of improvement of educational quality and outcomes.  This will be strategically done through the following:
a) Further promotion and institutionalization of holistic, multi-sectoral Child Friendly Schools (CFS) approach/framework to ensure minimum quality standards of education for all children in the region. 
b) Strengthening of evidence-based advocacy and policy advice by supporting the education management information system (EMIS), use of education statistics/data, and monitoring and evaluation of the sector policy/programmes.
c) Enhanced support to the establishment and operationalisation of national assessment system of learning achievement, by collaborating with external partners and institutions.

Your profile:
Advanced university degree in education, development studies or other related field. 
Eight years of progressively responsible experience in programme formulation, planning, management, and monitoring and evaluation, some of which should be in provision of quality basic education, gender and development and programme management.
Versatility, judgment, maturity, and the ability to work on a team. Ability to cope with stressful and difficult conditions, and political/cultural sensitivity.
Current knowledge of development issues, policies, as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation.
Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas, as well as to impart knowledge and teach skills.
Leadership and organizational abilities.
Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
Fluency in English and knowledge of French or Portuguese desirable.
