Staff Counsellor, P-3, Division of Human Resources, New York Headquarters

If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Staff Counsellor to be based in its Division of Human Resources, New York Headquarters.

The Staff Counsellor, as a professional member of the Staff Well-Being team, provides expertise to the  organization, its management and the staff to support the well-being of UNICEF staff and their families as well as of teams in UNICEF offices around the world.
This Staff Counsellor will work under the supervision of the Senior Staff Counsellor, and will act as Officer-In-Charge in the absence of the Senior Staff Counsellor. You will coordinate the global Peer Support Volunteer programme, facilitate workshops and will work in coordination with the network of UN counsellors. Frequent field missions are expected.

Your profile:
Advanced university  degree in counselling psychology, clinical psychology or related mental health profession. Additional training or certification in staff support and traumatic/critical incident stress as well as a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, family counselling, facilitation skills, stress management will be an advantage.
Five years progressively responsible work experience of which three must be international experience.
Discretion and high regard for confidentiality; Keen social awareness and judgement; An empathic non-judgmental clinical approach; Good communication/interpersonal skills; Resourcefulness and awareness pertaining to common counselling caveats (eg. overzealous client advocacy, burnout, etc..); Collegiality; Awareness of the need for self-care and personal counselling; Prudence in adhering to professional boundaries (administering only those services for which supervised training has been administered); Excellent organizational skills; Networking skills; Ability to work as part of a team.
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in French, Spanish and/or Arabic an asset.
