Deputy Director, Fundraising, D-1, Private Fundraising and Partnerships, Geneva, Switzerland

UNICEF seeks a Deputy Director, Fundraising to be based in its Private Fundraising and Partnerships office, Geneva, Switzerland.

You will provide executive level functional and inspirational leadership to UNICEF’s private fundraising programme globally in co-ordination with the senior management team in Private Fundraising and Partnerships and in line with UNICEF’s policies and goals. You will head the technical fundraising team in UNICEF which has one of the world’s largest fundraising programmes raising USD 950 million gross in 2007 from our network of 36 National Committees (NatComs) and 28 Country Offices (COs).

This position will be responsible for the development, management, implementation, evaluation and adaptation of UNICEF’s Global Fundraising Strategy, providing strategic leadership, vision and driving results to meet income targets both through existing business and in developing new business opportunities to increase market share.

Private Fundraising and Partnerships is a matrix structure with a separate unit focused on market or country management and oversight. Your role will include close co-ordination with the Deputy Director and the Senior Partnership Teams to set priorities and allocate resources across markets and income channels to deliver the required financial and non-financial results for UNICEF’s global programmes for children.

To achieve the core objectives, you will lead, manage and motivate a team of technical experts in fundraising and marketing who will provide strategic advice and guidance to countries. This includes:
• Managing UNICEF’s corporate fundraising team to deliver to international targets, co-ordinate multi-country corporate partnerships and support and guide NatComs and COs through UNICEF’s due diligence processes and advise on national or regional approaches to the corporate sector. Ensure liaison with the newly-created New York based Corporate Social Responsibility team.
• Creating a hub of best practice in fundraising in the organization through a team of fundraising specialist and ensuring we stay abreast of the latest techniques, practices and opportunities for UNICEF.
• Leading innovation in fundraising with a recently-created unit to both disseminate innovative fundraising products and appeals generated at a national level as well as drive global innovation in fundraising.
• Working with the market research team to turn UNICEF’s wealth of market information into market knowledge to inform decision-making in the fundraising programme.
• Disseminating knowledge, technical guidance and best practice through an annual programme of training and skillshare meetings around the world attracting fundraisers from all countries, through the on-line Marketing Knowledge Centre and through the use of external consultants.
• Managing the donor-programme matching team to improve our allocation of fundraising income to programmes as well as our reporting to improve our service to donors incl. corporate and major donors.

Your profile:
Advanced University degree in International Business, Management Sciences, Economics or equivalent, with Marketing, Communications and/or Fundraising specialization and work experience.
Minimum thirteen years work experience with increasing revenue and cost responsibility in leading international or global organization, companies or consultancy firm, with at least 5 years in an international Headquarter role.
Experience at a senior strategic management level in fundraising and/or marketing is essential as is experience in an international or national NGO.
Proven leadership track record in with an ability to set a vision, strategy and direction at a senior level in a complex organization with diverse stakeholders.
Senior level experience in strategic and global thinking and planning including development and implementation of an organization-wide strategy in a results-based management culture with demonstrated drive for results and ability to deliver or exceed targets. 
Excellent management skills in a multi-cultural environment with experience of working in a matrix structure highly desirable. Ability to anticipate or identify organizational gaps in capacity or capabilities and take action to fill the gaps.
A natural team-player with strong people management and development skills. A motivator with an ability to achieve results through others.
A natural relationship builder and influencer with diverse stakeholders in a politically charged environment.  Demonstrated ability to establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
Effective analytical and problem solving capabilities across a diverse business area with ability to interpret and present financial data and results.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential.
Experience in collaborating with communications, advocacy or campaign teams as advantage.
Computer literate with a good knowledge of computer programmes and genuine self-sufficiency.
Fluency in English is essential and in one other major UN language desirable.
